CHICAGO (JGL) -- St. Paul Manila Alumnae USA will assist St. Paul Surigao in aiding earthquake victims in the City of Surigao,

Mindanao in the Philippines, which was hit by a deadly 6.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday night, February 10th (Thursday, Feb. 9, U.S. time). Aftershocks are still expected to hit Surigao City.

At least seven people were reported dead and 120 injured. Eleven Surigao del Norte towns were affected by the quake. The provincial capital of Surigao City, two major bridges, the city airport, and other infrastructure buildings had sustained damages. St. Paul Surigao School and hospital also reportedly suffered some damages also.

Marilyn Abalos, Chair of St. Paul Manila Alumnae USA, said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the City of Surigao in the Philippines! Let’s help St. Paul Surigao aid the earthquake victims."

St. Paul Manila Alumnae USA also serves Surigao and other communities thru the Fleur-de-Lis Fund. The Fleur-de-Lis Fund provides for community projects helping those in need along with healthcare and education initiatives.

Ms. Abalos said her fund drive also accept “any amount of donation even as low as $5.  We want people to text $5.”

She said the fund-raising will last for 30 days. She said her group will be listing the names of donors and donation groupings after the fund-raising campaign.

Ms. Abalos added that they had launched “several small-fund drives primarily for St. Paul education initiatives in the past.
