CHICAGO (JGL) – “Jesuits in Mindanao: The Mission,” a coffee-table book documenting almost four centuries of mission work by

members of the Society of Jesus since arriving in Butuan City in 1561 and returning after they were expelled in 1700s, is one of the winners in the 2017 Gold Quill Awards which will be given away on Tuesday, June 13, during the Excellence Awards Gala as part of the World Conference in Washington, D.C.

Dennis Villanueva of Orlando, Florida told this reporter that his friend, Ramoncito “Monching” Cruz of Media Wise Communications, Inc. Philippines will be arriving in New York, New York on June 8th from Manila and will proceed to Washington, D.C. to receive the award.

“Jesuits in Mindanao: The Mission” is one of the 74 Excellence and 138 Merit awards out of 227 entries that will be handed out by International Association of Business Communications (IABC). It won the award under the publications category.

The other awardees from the Philippines are PRU LIFE UK – (Philippines) as 20th Anniversary Customer Engagement Campaign under the Customer Relations Category 8; the Meralco Advisory: Building the Customer Relations Through Trust Relevance, winner under Marketing Communications and Public Information Office; Company category; and “Football for a Better Life,” Winner, Albert Almendralejo, under Company, Spears Activation and PR Co. 


The Gold Quill Awards program recognizes business communication excellence globally, and is acknowledged as one of the most prestigious awards programs in the industry. Entries are evaluated against IABC’s standard of excellence, and the feedback from this year’s evaluators indicated that the standard of work in this year’s awards was some of the best seen in recent years.

This year, awards have been won by organizations from around the world, with 16 countries represented in the winners list.

The winners of the program’s special awards will be announced later this month. The winners of the Best of the Best awards and IABC Agency and Communication Department of the Year awards will be announced at the Excellence Awards Gala at the World Conference.
