• DACA END IS NEAR?:

   MS. MONY RUIZ-VELASCO (second from left on stage) told the participants to the emergency rally held Tuesday (Aug. 8) that U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen has delayed the announcement of his decision Aug. 8 to accept more materials on the legal arguments until Monday, Aug. 13, before he makes a ruling on the preliminary injunction hearing that could end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The immigration lawyer and board president of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) told DACA beneficiaries to renew their DACA cards to extend their eligibility for another two years. Don Harmon (D-Oak Park-IL), co-sponsor of the Immigration Safe Zones Act, SB 35, that seeks to extend protection over immigrants who often live in fear due to ruthless enforcement tactics used by immigration agencies in sensitive locations, including schools, hospitals and courtrooms, where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrest undocumented immigrants.
